Fraudulent Schemes Emerge in Popular Gaming Platform
Mojang Studios’ beloved sandbox game, Minecraft, has recently found itself at the center of a troubling trend. Authorities in Russia are raising alarms about the exploitation of in-game chats by fraudsters targeting young players. The Moscow Department of Education and Science has issued warnings to children, highlighting the deceptive tactics employed by these criminals.
Fraudsters have started deceiving children through the game Minecraft. Schoolchildren are found in game chats, then the correspondence is transferred to Telegram, supposedly to discuss game moments.
Once contact is established, these fraudsters masquerade as “cybersecurity officers,” alleging that the children have shared sensitive information with authorities. This alarming tactic escalates as they threaten detention, coercing minors into stealing money from their parents to hand over to couriers.
This unsettling development underscores the need for vigilance among parents and guardians, as well as the importance of educating young gamers about potential online threats.
