The Rage:MP multiplayer platform, a popular choice among Grand Theft Auto 5 enthusiasts, has announced a forthcoming “structured shutdown” following a cease-and-desist order from Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA. This development was communicated by the admin team through the Rage:MP forums, where they clarified the situation regarding authorized platforms for GTA 5 multiplayer modding.
Transition to FiveM
According to the announcement, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have designated FiveM as the sole authorized platform for GTA 5 multiplayer modding, as outlined in their Platform License Agreement (PLA). In compliance with this directive, Rage:MP will initiate a phased shutdown process. Server owners are being urged to cease operations and transition to FiveM.
The admins expressed their understanding of the impact this news has on both developers and players, stating, “We know this is tough news for everyone.” They emphasized their commitment to facilitating a smooth transition, providing ample time for server migration to the new platform.
- Public access to the Rage:MP server toolkit will be discontinued.
- No new community servers will be accepted.
- The public server listing will be shut down on June 1.
- All remaining services, including the game client and server toolkit, will cease on August 31.
In their farewell message, the Rage:MP team reflected on the community-driven nature of their platform, stating, “All of us have put a huge amount of time and energy into building Rage:MP. Thank you for being part of this journey and for everything you’ve done to help multiplayer grow.”
This shift comes after a history of tension between Take-Two and various modding platforms, including FiveM, which was previously banned for policy violations but later acquired by Take-Two. The evolving landscape of GTA 5’s multiplayer experience continues to be shaped by corporate decisions, leaving players and developers to navigate the changes ahead.
