Windows 11 is Getting These Six Upgrades and Features This Month

June 5, 2026

Microsoft is set to initiate the rollout of the June 2026 security update for Windows 11 on June 9, introducing a host of new features, system enhancements, and security fixes for versions 25H2 and 24H2. This update builds upon the previous KB5089573, which was released as a preview on May 26 for Windows 11 builds 26200.8524 and 26100.8524. As part of a gradual rollout, some features may take time to become available across all eligible devices. Here are the six key upgrades users can expect this month.

Low Latency Profile

Among the standout features is the Low Latency Profile, designed to enhance the responsiveness of Windows 11 during brief interactive tasks. This background feature temporarily boosts the processor frequency for one to three seconds during actions such as launching apps, accessing the Start menu, or navigating File Explorer. While it aims to deliver short bursts of responsiveness rather than sustained performance, users may experience app launch times improving by up to 40% and interaction times with system features by as much as 70%. The extent of these improvements will vary based on hardware, with older or lower-end PCs potentially benefiting more significantly than their high-end counterparts.

Shared Audio

The update also introduces Shared Audio, a feature that enables two users to listen to the same audio stream from a single Windows 11 PC simultaneously. Utilizing Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast technology, this feature works seamlessly with supported paired Bluetooth devices. Users can initiate a Shared Audio session via Quick Settings, selecting two compatible devices to enjoy shared media experiences, whether it’s watching a movie on the go or listening to music together.

Task Manager Gets NPU Metrics

Task Manager has received enhancements that provide greater insight into AI hardware usage on PCs equipped with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). New optional columns now display NPU usage, engine activity, dedicated memory, and shared memory across various pages, including Processes, Users, and Details. Additionally, the Performance page now showcases neural engines integrated within GPUs, offering a comprehensive view of AI-related activities on modern systems. Microsoft has also introduced an optional Isolation column to identify applications running within an AppContainer sandbox.

Multi-App Camera Support

The Camera settings page is being upgraded with advanced controls, including Multi-App Camera support, which allows multiple applications to access the same camera stream simultaneously. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who require webcam access across different meetings, streaming platforms, or recording applications. Furthermore, Microsoft is adding a Basic Camera mode to simplify functionality for troubleshooting or enhancing stability when camera features or drivers encounter issues. Enterprise administrators will have the ability to manage these camera settings through Group Policy.

Custom Folder Name During Setup

In a move to enhance user experience, Windows 11 setup now permits users to select a custom name for their user profile folder during the Out-of-Box Experience. This option appears on the Device Name page, allowing users to avoid the default folder names generated based on their Microsoft account. If this step is overlooked, Windows 11 will revert to its standard naming process, with custom names still needing to adhere to standard Windows naming conventions.

Windows Hello and Other Changes

Improvements to Windows Hello include optimization of the Windows Biometric service, which aims to reduce latency when devices resume from Modern Standby. The default sign-in method will remain face or fingerprint recognition when available, even if an alternative sign-in option was previously used. Additionally, Windows Search has been enhanced to locate and prioritize files with just two characters, while storage settings now facilitate Dev Drive creation and volume resizing in gigabytes rather than just megabytes.

Other notable fixes encompass improved reliability for displays connected via USB4 docks and hubs, enhanced USB3 stack recovery, better sensor and HID power behavior, smoother clipboard history navigation, improved touch keyboard reliability on the sign-in screen, and more dependable loading of desktop app shortcuts.

Rollout

The features will be rolled out gradually, meaning availability will differ by device. Users operating on Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 can anticipate receiving these enhancements as Microsoft progressively expands the June update rollout.
