Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 5

Today marks the arrival of 26.2 Pre-Release 5, introducing notable adjustments to Hardcore mode settings alongside various bug fixes. As previously announced during Minecraft Live, this update is set to officially launch on June 16.

For those embarking on their hardcore mining adventures, a careful approach is advised.

Changes

  • The game setting for the Graphics API will now automatically adjust if a crash occurs during startup.
  • The sound effect associated with hitting the sulfur cube in the bouncy archetype has been corrected.
  • World hosts can now change the game mode using F3 + F4 or commands, which will also update the default game mode for the world.
  • In Hardcore mode worlds, the “Game Mode” and “Allow Commands” buttons have been removed.

Startup and Fallback Behavior for Graphics API

  • If a crash happens at startup while “Prefer Vulkan” is selected, the setting will revert to “Default.”
  • Even when set to “Default,” the game will still attempt to collect system information regarding Vulkan during startup.
  • If a crash occurs at startup with “Default” selected, the setting will switch to “Prefer OpenGL.”
    • With “Prefer OpenGL” enabled, there will be no interaction with Vulkan to prevent potential crashes.
