Paralympics Productions Ceases Operations
Paralympics Productions, the innovative modding group behind the successful GTA 5 port to the original Nintendo Switch, has announced that it will be shutting down on October 3. The decision comes after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Take-Two Interactive, forcing project lead M0jso to halt all ongoing projects.
M0jso revealed that the Android port he was working on following the Switch build has also been canceled. He made it clear that no one will be taking over the project or continuing it under a different name. Additionally, he stated that the source code will not be released to avoid further legal complications.
The legal claims made by Take-Two Interactive have not been publicly disclosed, leaving many to speculate on the exact reasons behind the cease-and-desist letter. It is worth noting that both ports were based on leaked GTA 5 source code from 2023.
The timing of the shutdown coincides with Rockstar’s recent update to its mod guidelines, which now explicitly prohibit modifying their games to run on unofficial platforms. M0jso had previously criticized these new rules, which may have contributed to the legal action taken against Paralympics Productions.
As a result of the shutdown, Android users will have to resort to Winlator-style compatibility tools or streaming services to access GTA 5 on their devices. It seems unlikely that another native port attempt will be made in the near future, given the legal challenges faced by Paralympics Productions.
