Google has announced that it is addressing a persistent issue with Android Auto that has frustrated users by causing music to play automatically upon vehicle startup, even when the autoplay feature is disabled. This unexpected behavior has been a source of annoyance for those who prefer a quieter start to their driving experience.
Typically, Android Auto is designed to enhance the driving experience by seamlessly integrating music playback as soon as the system activates. However, for users who wish to disable this feature, a toggle exists, which has not been functioning as intended for some time.
Reports indicate that, for certain users, Android Auto would initiate music playback briefly upon starting the vehicle, only to cease a few seconds later. This glitch has prompted Google to take action, and a fix is currently being rolled out.
In a recent Reddit post, Google confirmed that it is implementing measures to eliminate “unsolicited play commands” during startup when autoplay is deactivated. This update is part of a broader effort to enhance the autoplay functionality, including a new prompt that allows users to opt out of autoplay if the system detects a pattern of immediate playback pauses.
Google outlined several key improvements aimed at making autoplay more reliable and tailored to user preferences:
- Autoplay app selection: Applications that have not been recently used or have never been utilized will no longer be chosen for autoplay.
- One-tap opt-out: For users who prefer manual playback and frequently pause autoplay, Android Auto will now offer a convenient one-tap notification to swiftly disable the feature.
- Infotainment startup handling: The fix will ensure that unsolicited play commands are not sent when autoplay is turned off.
While Google has not specified which particular update will resolve the autoplay issue, the company assures users that the fix is in the process of being deployed.
