Alienware’s Bold New Offerings in Gaming Monitors
In a striking display of innovation, Alienware has unveiled its latest flagship gaming monitor, the AW3926QW, at the Computex tech trade show in Taiwan. This impressive 39-inch OLED display boasts a staggering 5K resolution and a refresh rate of 165Hz, with the capability to reach 330Hz in a reduced-resolution mode. The introduction of RGB-stripe OLED technology elevates image quality, making this monitor a standout choice for discerning gamers.
As part of Alienware’s 30th-anniversary celebration, the AW3926QW leads a lineup of three additional displays, all measuring over 30 inches. The timing of this launch is fitting, as it coincides with a significant milestone for the company, inviting gamers to consider an upgrade as a celebratory gesture.
The AW3926QW’s expansive 39-inch ultrawide panel is equivalent to a traditional 32-inch 4K display, enhanced by an additional vertical half, resulting in a resolution of 5,120 x 2,160. Such a high resolution demands a top-tier graphics card to fully appreciate the visual fidelity while gaming.
To accommodate the vast size of the panel, Alienware has designed it with a 1,500R curve, ensuring a comfortable viewing angle across the entire screen. While the full native resolution supports a refresh rate of 165Hz—adequate for single-player experiences and even fast-paced games like Doom: The Dark Ages—the monitor can switch to a 330Hz mode at a resolution of 2,560 x 1,080 for competitive multiplayer gaming. This dual-mode functionality is becoming increasingly common, with similar offerings from brands like LG and Alienware itself.
The RGB stripe technology represents a significant advancement in OLED displays. Unlike traditional OLEDs that utilize a varied arrangement of red, green, and blue subpixels, the new RGB stripe configuration aligns these subpixels in uniform stripes. This design enhances image sharpness and mitigates the fuzzy multicolored fringes often seen around high-contrast edges, such as black text on a white background.
Additionally, the AW3926QW features a KVM switch, allowing users to connect their keyboard and mouse directly to the monitor and seamlessly switch between devices connected to its video inputs. While Alienware has yet to announce a specific price, expectations suggest it will be around the ,500 mark.
For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, Alienware has also introduced the AW3426DW, an upgrade to its popular 34-inch OLED gaming monitor series. This model enhances the refresh rate from 240Hz to 280Hz, incorporates RGB stripe OLED technology, and achieves a peak brightness of 1,300 nits.
Completing the new lineup are the AW3426DWM and AW3226DWM, both 240Hz LCD monitors. The former is a 34-inch ultrawide display with a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440, while the latter is a 1440p model. These monitors are positioned at more accessible price points of 9 and 9, respectively. All of these displays are set to become available this summer, promising to cater to a wide range of gaming preferences and budgets.
