Death Stranding Director’s Cut has officially made its debut on Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC, marking a significant milestone as it is the first time this expanded edition has been available on Microsoft’s subscription service. This announcement comes from KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS in collaboration with publisher 505 Games, and access is granted to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium subscribers.
Originally launched as an enhanced version of Death Stranding, the Director’s Cut builds upon the acclaimed 2019 title crafted by Hideo Kojima. Players step into the shoes of Sam Bridges, portrayed by Norman Reedus, navigating a post-apocalyptic United States that has been irrevocably altered by a supernatural event known as the Death Stranding. The gameplay revolves around traversal and delivery, enriched by asynchronous online connections that allow players to indirectly influence one another’s experiences.
The addition of Death Stranding Director’s Cut to Xbox Game Pass enhances accessibility, allowing eligible subscribers to experience the game without any extra purchase, thus broadening its audience on Microsoft platforms. The standard version of Death Stranding had previously been released on PlayStation consoles and PC, with the Director’s Cut arriving later, featuring added content and gameplay enhancements.
DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT Now Available On Xbox Game Pass Across PC and Console
This Director’s Cut introduces a variety of new features and adjustments that were not present in the original release. Among these is a new story location known as the Ruined Factory, which presents combat-focused challenges within a confined space. Players will also find new delivery tools such as cargo catapults, support ramps, and a stabilizer equipped with thrusters, all designed to facilitate navigation across diverse terrains and manage heavy loads more effectively.
The combat system has been notably expanded, introducing new melee moves alongside the Maser Gun, a non-lethal weapon intended to stun enemies and temporarily disable vehicles. A firing range feature allows players to test their weaponry and strive for high scores, while a racetrack mode presents time-based challenges against other online competitors. Additionally, the update includes Buddy Bots, which assist players in transporting goods over long distances.
The Xbox version has undergone optimization updates to enhance performance on handheld devices, including models like the ASUS ROG Ally that support Xbox Game Pass. For those who prefer to own the game outright, it remains available for purchase through the Xbox Games Store.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut joins an expanding roster of high-profile titles on Xbox Game Pass, reinforcing Microsoft’s commitment to enriching its subscription catalog with established and beloved releases.
