Elon Musk says too many game studios are owned by giant corporations so his giant corporation is going to start a studio to ‘make games great again’
Elon Musk’s New Venture into Gaming
In a recent social media post, Elon Musk, the owner of X, SpaceX, and Tesla, expressed his thoughts on the current state of the gaming industry, suggesting that it has become overly “woke” due to the influence of large corporations. Musk, whose net worth exceeds 2 billion, announced plans to establish a new game studio powered by artificial intelligence, aiming to “make games great again.” This declaration follows a comment from Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin, who questioned how game developers and journalists have become so ideologically influenced, noting that true gamers can easily discern insincerity.
Musk’s critique of the gaming landscape highlighted the dominance of massive corporations, stating, “Too many game studios that are owned by massive corporations.” He further emphasized his commitment to this new venture by proclaiming that xAI would spearhead the initiative. With access to at least 100,000 Nvidia GPUs, Musk’s endeavor could potentially be a multi-billion-dollar operation, although the specifics of his “AI game studio” remain largely undefined.
In a follow-up post, Musk questioned why game developers can’t simply focus on creating quality games without the accompanying ideological discourse. His comments have sparked interest among certain segments of the X platform, where users are excited about the prospect of returning game ownership to the masses—albeit under the stewardship of one of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
However, not everyone is convinced by Musk’s vision. Some industry professionals, including game designer Derek Smart, have expressed skepticism about the feasibility of such an ambitious project. Despite the apparent absurdity of Musk’s proposal, it has garnered attention and support from predictable factions online.
The likelihood of this idea evolving beyond a mere tweet remains uncertain. Yet, there is a glimmer of hope that Musk may pursue this venture with the same fervor that led him to acquire Twitter. Should he choose to follow through, the outcome could mirror the challenges faced by other tech giants like Amazon and Google, who have learned that developing and launching video games is a complex undertaking.
As of now, inquiries have been made to X for further clarification on Musk’s gaming aspirations, and updates will be provided if a response is received.
