NVIDIA’s latest GeForce NOW Thursday update shines a spotlight on two beloved classics that have recently received a modern touch: The Thing and Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2. These remastered titles not only evoke nostalgia but also bring a host of enhancements that cater to both long-time fans and newcomers alike.
The Thing: Remastered revitalizes the 2002 third-person shooter inspired by John Carpenter’s iconic 1982 film. Originally crafted by Computer Artworks, the remaster is now in the capable hands of Nightdive Studios, renowned for their exceptional remastering work on titles such as System Shock, Turok, and Doom 64. The remastered version boasts impressive upgrades, including anti-aliasing, per-pixel lighting, and support for 4K resolution at up to 144 frames per second. For those subscribed to the Performance tier on GeForce NOW, gameplay can reach up to 1440p, while Ultimate tier subscribers can enjoy the experience in stunning 4K at 120 frames per second.
Meanwhile, the Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered commemorates the franchise’s 25th anniversary by reintroducing Raziel’s gripping saga of vampiric revenge. Originally developed by Crystal Dynamics, this remaster has been undertaken by Aspyr, a studio with a solid track record in remastering games. This new version features enhanced cut-scenes with high-fidelity models, redesigned hero models for Raziel and Kain, and fresh enemy and boss designs. Notable additions include a new glow effect for Raziel’s eyes and the Wraith Blade, real-time shadows for all characters and objects, and the much-anticipated Day and Night cycle that was absent from the original release. Players can also explore a newly designed map and utilize a Photo Mode to capture their adventures.
In addition to these remastered gems, earlier this week saw the launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on GeForce NOW, accessible to players who own the title through platforms like Steam, Microsoft Store, or PC Game Pass. GFN Ultimate subscribers can further enhance their experience with the newly introduced path tracing feature, adding a layer of visual depth to their gameplay.
The weekly GeForce NOW update also includes a variety of new titles joining the cloud platform’s library:
- Fast Food Simulator (New release on Steam, Dec. 10)
- The Spirit of the Samurai (New release on Steam, Dec. 12)
- Diablo Immortal (Battle.net)
- The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria (Steam)
