As anticipation builds for the release of GTA VI, millions of fans find themselves in a rather frustrating predicament. The upcoming installment in Rockstar Games’ iconic Grand Theft Auto series is set to create a buzz across social media platforms, much like its predecessor, GTA V, which continues to be a topic of conversation more than a decade after its initial launch in 2013.

However, not all gamers will be able to join in on the excitement at launch. Those who have yet to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S will be left out in the cold, as GTA VI will not be available on last-generation consoles. This limitation raises questions for PC gamers as well. Despite the capabilities of modern gaming PCs, they too may find themselves sidelined unless they also own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.

Rockstar Games first unveiled GTA VI in December 2023, and the trailer confirmed its exclusivity to the latest console generations. Yet, as reported by PC Gamer, over a year has passed since that announcement, and a release date for the PC version remains elusive.

Assuming a late 2025 release for consoles, fans can expect to see GTA VI hit the shelves in approximately ten months. However, Rockstar has a history of delaying titles to ensure the highest quality, which may mean that the PC version could be pushed back even further, potentially to 2026.

Historically, PC gamers have often faced longer waits for Rockstar titles compared to their console counterparts. For instance, GTA V saw a staggering 19-month delay before its PC launch in April 2015, following its console debut in September 2013. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 had a 13-month gap between its console and PC releases, while the original game experienced an extraordinary 14-year wait before making its PC debut in 2024.

Interestingly, the only mainline entry in the series to launch simultaneously on both PC and consoles was GTA IV back in 2008. With GTA VI currently slated for a late 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, many are left hoping that the wait for PC gamers won’t be excessively prolonged.
