Emulating PlayStation Controller Compatibility with Steam Input
In the realm of gaming, compatibility issues can occasionally arise, particularly when a title does not natively support PlayStation controllers. Fortunately, players can leverage Steam Input, a versatile software tool designed to map the various buttons, sticks, and triggers of controllers to the appropriate inputs required by the game.
For many popular games, a custom Steam Input mapping for PlayStation controllers is typically enabled by default. This means that players can simply connect their DualShock or DualSense controllers and dive right into the action. While it’s common for some button glyphs to appear as Xbox icons—such as A, B, X, and Y—rest assured that the gameplay experience remains intact. Should you prefer to see the familiar PlayStation icons—cross, circle, square, and triangle—there’s a straightforward solution.
To switch to PlayStation icons, follow these steps:
- Click on Steam in the top left corner of the Steam window.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Navigate to the Controller section in the left-hand panel.
- From the dropdown menu next to PlayStation Controller Support, select Enabled in Games w/o Support.

In the pop-up window, choose the Controller option from the left-hand navigation panel. Next, click on the dropdown menu and select Enable Steam Input.
