IGDA appoints Limpho Moeti as its chair

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) has ushered in a new era with the appointment of Limpho Moeti as its chair, succeeding Zak Whaley, who has held the position since April 2024. Moeti brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent nine years in the gaming industry, contributing her talents to notable companies such as Free Lives, Nyamakop, and RocketRide. Additionally, she is a co-founder of the indie festival Playtopia, further showcasing her commitment to fostering creativity within the gaming community.

Leadership Changes and New Appointments

In conjunction with Moeti’s appointment, the IGDA has welcomed Nazih Gares as the new vice chair and Mafalda Duarte as the secretary. Tim Cullings will continue to serve as treasurer, ensuring continuity in the organization’s financial stewardship. Gares, previously the studio director of Telescope Game Studios, also co-founded Game Dev Lison, while Duarte’s background includes significant contributions to the gaming landscape. Cullings, serving as the executive director of Seattle Indies, brings invaluable insights into the indie game development scene.

Dr. Jakin Vela, the executive director of IGDA, expressed confidence in the new leadership team, stating, “Limpho, Nazih, Mafalda, and Tim bring passion and unique approaches to supporting the organization. Their leadership and expertise will strengthen IGDA’s global connections, expand mentorship offerings, and create lasting partnerships that empower game developers at every stage of their careers.”
