Koei Tecmo Wants to Release 6 Console and PC Games, 19 Mid-Range Games Before March 2027

Koei Tecmo has enjoyed a fruitful year, marked by the successful launches of titles such as Nioh 3 and Pokémon Pokopia. However, the company is strategically shifting its focus away from reliance on blockbuster releases to ensure sustainable growth. In its latest earnings report, Koei Tecmo highlighted a robust quarter, attributing its success to an expanded development framework that will facilitate the creation of a diverse array of games through the fiscal year ending in March 2027.

Strategic Game Development Plans

The company has laid out an ambitious plan for the near future, aiming to unveil “six major console and PC titles, 19 mid-range titles, and two original online and mobile titles that have already been announced.” This initiative is part of a broader strategy to cultivate a well-rounded portfolio that encompasses both high-profile releases and mid-tier games.

Among the anticipated major titles are Attack on Titan 3 and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember. The former recently captured attention with a new trailer, confirming its development for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with a release scheduled for this winter. The trailer not only showcased thrilling battles against the game’s titans but also provided insights into the strategic elements players will engage with, ensuring their gear is adequately prepared for the challenges ahead.

In an exciting collaboration, Koei Tecmo announced that MAPPA, the studio responsible for the final season of the Attack on Titan anime, will produce a unique opening animation for Attack on Titan 3. This production will involve the talents of storyboard artist, key animator, and scene animator Arifumi Imai, with more details expected as the release date approaches.

As for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, Koei Tecmo has remained tight-lipped since its unveiling during the Xbox Games Showcase last month. The initial trailer highlighted the game’s dynamic action and striking visual style, hinting at a narrative centered around breaking an unending cycle of violence. It also featured glimpses of intense gameplay, including formidable boss encounters, setting the stage for what promises to be an engaging sequel to 2023’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which was released across multiple platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Earlier this month, Koei Tecmo expressed surprise at the success of Pokémon Pokopia. President and CEO Hisashi Koinuma shared that the company did not harbor high expectations prior to the title’s launch. “Among our spin-off titles, I do feel a strong sense of accomplishment. We worked to make it the best-selling spin-off game, but before launch, there weren’t any real expectations (laughs). However, directly ahead of launch, lots of overseas media played it and rated it very highly, and then I felt it spread from there.”
