Local movie theater is changing its policy on Minecraft movie

In a notable shift in policy, RMC Theater in Waterloo, Illinois, has decided to impose age restrictions on the much-anticipated Minecraft movie, responding to a viral trend that has taken social media by storm. The theater’s announcement, made via Facebook, reveals that while the film is rated PG, it will now be treated as an R-rated feature, a move aimed at curbing disruptive behavior inspired by TikTok videos.

Viral Sensations and Audience Behavior

The trend that prompted this decision involves enthusiastic moviegoers creating content that often includes throwing various items—ranging from ice and candy to popcorn and soda—during a specific moment in the film when Jack Black’s character mentions “Chicken Jockey.” Some individuals have even gone so far as to bring live chickens to enhance their video appeal.

As a result of these antics, RMC Theater has implemented a new policy: patrons aged 17 to 20 will be allowed to purchase tickets solely for themselves, prohibiting them from buying tickets for guests under the age of 17. This measure aims to maintain a more controlled and respectful viewing environment for all attendees.

The theater’s proactive approach highlights the challenges that establishments face in navigating the intersection of social media trends and traditional moviegoing experiences. By adapting its policies, RMC Theater seeks to preserve the integrity of the cinematic experience while addressing the evolving landscape of audience behavior.
