Lords of the Fallen 2 set to potentially release on Steam as developer CI Games and Epic terminate PC exclusivity deal

Game Development Update

In the wake of its announcement last summer and a glimpse into gameplay showcased during The Game Awards 2025, Lords of the Fallen 2—the third installment in the series despite its reboot status—has been steadily progressing towards a tentative launch in 2026. Initially, the game was set to be an exclusive title for the Epic Games Store on PC; however, recent developments suggest a shift in this strategy.

According to Polish news outlet Bankier, CI Games, the developer and sole proprietor of the intellectual property, has successfully concluded its multi-year exclusivity agreement with Epic Games. The official filing clarifies that while the exclusivity has ended, this will not disrupt the ongoing collaboration between CI Games and Epic, particularly concerning the use of the Unreal Engine and other services provided by Epic.

CI Games has been “released from its obligations” under a full termination that is described as “conditional in nature.” While the specifics surrounding the timing and reasoning behind this decision remain undisclosed, the outcome allows Lords of the Fallen 2 to potentially launch on Steam as well, broadening its accessibility to players. Notably, the console versions of this dark fantasy Soulslike title will continue to be unaffected by these changes.

The sequel has ignited discussions within the gaming community, particularly following remarks from CI Games founder and CEO Marek Tyminski regarding “political correctness” and the importance of “real player feedback.” Additionally, the studio has stirred controversy with its announcement of more revealing armor sets for female characters in Lords of the Fallen 2, a notable departure from the design choices made in its previous project.

Critics have weighed in on the franchise, with Eurogamer’s two-star review of the rebooted Lords of the Fallen describing it as “a perfectly acceptable Soulslike that’s often fun to play and offers the same satisfaction at overcoming adversity.” However, the review also pointed out that the game was hindered by “Soulslike clichés and performance woes,” highlighting the challenges that lie ahead for the upcoming sequel.
