Mojang has embarked on an exciting new chapter with the launch of the pre-release phase for Minecraft Java Edition 26.2, marking the first pre-release in anticipation of the much-anticipated Chaos Cubed update. This initial phase primarily focuses on addressing various bugs as the team readies itself for the full release.
Among the noteworthy adjustments in this build is the removal of the Peer-to-Peer connection feature, which was introduced in a recent snapshot. Mojang has acknowledged that the user experience did not meet their expectations and has decided that the feature requires further refinement before it can be made available to all players.

- Small Sulfur Cubes now feature an updated model and texture.
- A unique set of hit and push sounds has been introduced for each archetype, enhancing the audio experience with distinct sonic identities for every block type.
Sulfur Caves
- The fog color in Sulfur Caves has been updated, with plans for Bedrock Edition to align with this change in a future update.
- The maximum growth length of Sulfur Spikes has been reduced, responding to community feedback regarding overgrown caves.
Potent Sulfur
- The continuous Geyser setup now requires a source Lava block to erupt, refining the conditions necessary to trigger this mechanic.
Sounds
- Updated hurt and death sounds for one of the chicken sound variants.
- Small Sulfur Cubes now produce sounds when fed Slimeballs.
UI
- The Friends List button is now consistently visible on the title screen, regardless of whether the feature is disabled in the options.
Server Properties
Two new server properties have been introduced, allowing for the separation of spam thresholds for chat and commands:
- chat-spam-threshold-seconds – controls the kick threshold for chat spam.
- command-spam-threshold-seconds – controls the kick threshold for command spam.
Both properties default to 10 seconds, with the option to set them to 0 to disable kicks for that type of spam entirely.
