Minecraft’s Mounts of Mayhem Update Lets Players Ride Into Combat

The long-awaited fourth and final update for Minecraft in 2025, titled Mounts of Mayhem, has officially launched for both Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition players. This update introduces an exciting new dimension to gameplay, allowing players to ride into battle atop an array of mounts while also unveiling a selection of fresh challenges.

New Mounts and Challenges

As showcased in the launch trailer, players will encounter formidable new enemies that must be defeated before they can claim their mounts. Among the notable additions are camel husks, which spawn in desert biomes and are accompanied by two mob riders known as the Parched. These riders possess the unique ability to withstand sunlight, presenting an intriguing challenge for players eager to tame the camel husks.

Nighttime brings its own set of challenges, as players may stumble upon zombie horses, complete with their own zombie riders. Despite their undead status, these horses can be claimed by players who successfully vanquish their riders. Underwater, players will find two intriguing options: the nautilus and the zombie nautilus. While a regular nautilus can be tamed with a pufferfish, the zombie variant requires players to defeat its zombie rider first, although both types share a fondness for the same aquatic treat.

Enhanced Combat Mechanics

In addition to the new mounts, the update introduces a spear for mounted combat and hand-to-hand battles. Players can enhance their combat strategy by utilizing the lunge enchantment, granting them a burst of speed to close the distance between themselves and their adversaries during attacks.

Another significant enhancement allows horses to swim in the waters of the Overworld, eliminating the need for players to navigate around bodies of water. Furthermore, players can now equip their steeds with Netherite horse armor, crafted by combining diamond horse armor with a Netherite upgrade smithing template and a Netherite ingot.

Future Developments

Looking ahead, players can anticipate more Minecraft updates slated for release in 2026. Meanwhile, a new mobile game, Minecraft Blast, is currently undergoing testing in select regions worldwide. This free-to-play title promises to expand the Minecraft universe, although a specific release date has yet to be announced.
