Now’s the time to play this Arthurian spin on Skyrim thanks to its monumental new update

Game Update Sparks Renewed Interest

As a long-time enthusiast of fantasy narratives, my journey began with the enchanting worlds of Tolkien and Lewis, evolving into a passion that embraces everything from Silmarillion tattoos to Dungeons & Dragons sessions. Naturally, any game that echoes these themes captures my attention, and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon was no exception. However, upon its initial launch, the game presented a rather uneven and unrefined experience, which tempered my enthusiasm. Yet, with the recent announcement from developer Questline regarding a significant patch, it appears the time has come to revisit this intriguing RPG.

Initially, I was poised to immerse myself in a captivating new adventure, but technical glitches hindered my experience. Despite these setbacks, it was evident that Tainted Grail held considerable promise, prompting me to keep it installed for a future return once the developers had refined the gameplay.

Described as “Arthurian Skyrim,” the game has undergone a substantial transformation with this latest patch. It introduces a New Game Plus mode, a transmog system allowing players to showcase their most stylish gear, and a host of enhancements across various aspects of gameplay. Notably, the update includes three new dungeons, six fresh quests, redesigned elements, and a plethora of rewards. Most importantly, the developers have emphasized the implementation of “TONS of bug fixes and rebalancing all over the place.”

Quality of life improvements have been a focal point in this update, featuring essential additions such as unread markers for items yet to be explored, alphabetical sorting for inventory management, and the convenience of bulk purchasing in shops. Furthermore, significant RAM optimizations have been made, promising enhanced stability during late-game sessions.

The patch addresses over 50 gameplay balance issues, and while I won’t enumerate them all (the full patch notes are available via the link below), the cumulative effect is expected to yield a more seamless gaming experience. I’m particularly intrigued by the enhancements made to enemy and NPC behaviors, which now promise a more dynamic and engaging world. Coupled with over 50 improvements targeting technical, audio, graphics, and user interface issues, my interest has been reignited.

With an impressive 87% positive rating on Steam, Tainted Grail has already garnered a “Very Positive” designation. If the developers can successfully resolve the technical challenges that marred its launch, this title could very well ascend to must-play status.
