For those who have been following the journey of Death Stranding on Xbox, a long-standing issue has finally been resolved, much to the relief of players. The game, developed by the renowned Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions, has been celebrated for its unique storytelling and gameplay set in a post-apocalyptic America. However, it faced a significant hurdle on the Xbox PC platform due to a persistent save file bug that left many players frustrated.
Resolution of the Save File Bug
Initially, players experienced a troubling scenario where save files would fail to copy after a brief period of gameplay, leading to lost progress. This glitch, which was both unpredictable and inconvenient, marred the gaming experience and contributed to a disheartening 2/5 review score on the Xbox PC store. Various workarounds were suggested over the years, but they often involved cumbersome steps that did little to alleviate the frustration.
Fortunately, a collaborative effort between Microsoft, 505 Games, and Kojima Productions has led to a fix that is now being rolled out as part of the Xbox Gaming Services background app on PC. Players can easily verify if they have received the update by navigating to the Xbox PC app, clicking on their profile picture, and checking the version number under the Settings menu. If the “Gaming Services” version is 32.106.13001.0 or higher, the fix should be in place.
After testing the update on version 33.108.12001.0, many players, including myself, have found that progress is now being saved consistently, restoring the joy of gameplay. While the save file issue was not as prevalent on the Xbox Series X|S, it posed a significant challenge for those who recently acquired an Xbox Ally or Xbox Ally X. The game is optimized for performance, making it an excellent choice for portable gaming, especially for those looking to maximize battery life on handheld devices.
With the resolution of this issue, players can now enjoy Death Stranding Director’s Cut without the fear of losing their hard-earned progress. The game is available for purchase on the Xbox Store for .99, and as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, it allows players to buy once and play across both console and PC platforms.
