Phil Rogers is Embracer Group’s next CEO

Industry veteran Phil Rogers (pictured) is set to step into the role of CEO at Embracer Group, effective August 1st. This transition comes as Lars Wingefors prepares to take on the position of executive chair of the board later in September, while current chair Kicki Wallje-Lund will assume the role of deputy chair.

Leadership Transition at Embracer Group

Rogers joined Embracer in 2022, following the company’s acquisition of Square Enix’s western studios, which includes notable names such as Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montreal. Before his appointment as CEO, he served as deputy CEO and led both Crystal Dynamics and Plaion.

Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Wingefors expressed gratitude for his tenure as CEO, stating, “With the start of this new phase, I am thankful for the years and lessons learned as CEO of Embracer. While the road has not always been straight, I am incredibly proud of the achievements made possible by our talented teams, which have created some incredible experiences for gamers.”

He further emphasized the importance of this leadership change, noting, “This new phase allows me to focus on strategic initiatives, M&A, and capital allocation, ensuring Embracer’s continued growth and success. I am more convinced than ever that the best is still ahead of us.” Wingefors also expressed his confidence in Rogers, stating, “Having worked very closely with Phil over the past years, I have high confidence in his abilities. I look forward to a continued close collaboration to further strengthen the business and drive value in the coming years.”

This leadership shift marks another significant development for Embracer, following last month’s announcement regarding the spin-off of Coffee Stain into its own independent entity.
