Red Dead Redemption’s PC price has left many fans upset
Long-Awaited PC Release of Red Dead Redemption Sparks Mixed Reactions
After a lengthy 14-year wait, PC gamers are poised to dive into the immersive world of Rockstar’s Western masterpiece, the original Red Dead Redemption, later this month. This highly anticipated port and remastered edition promises enhancements such as support for higher resolutions, ultrawide displays, uncapped frame rates, and cutting-edge technologies like DLSS, FSR, and Frame Generation.
Rockstar’s surprise announcement last week generated significant excitement, although it notably omitted details regarding pricing. Instead, the company indicated that pre-purchasing and pre-orders would soon be available on major platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store. Within a day, these storefronts revealed the price for the long-awaited PC debut, which has stirred discontent among many fans.
The upcoming PC release will feature both the base game and the Undead Nightmare expansion; however, it will not include the much-loved multiplayer modes. The price tag for this nostalgic journey is set at .99 USD, a figure that has prompted a wave of frustration across Reddit and social media platforms. Many gamers have expressed their discontent, labeling the cost as ‘ridiculous’ for a game that has been around for over a decade.
Despite the backlash, there are those who, after years of anticipation, are willing to hold out for potential discounts. Comments reflecting this sentiment suggest that while the price may be steep, the allure of experiencing the original Red Dead on PC remains strong enough to justify waiting for a sale.
This reaction mirrors the earlier controversy when Rockstar charged the same for the re-release of Red Dead Redemption on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 last year. In response to the criticism, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick defended the pricing strategy, asserting that charging for a decade-old experience was “commercially accurate” and represented “great value for consumers.”
