Reforged Studios snaps up Yellow Lab Games

Indie publisher Reforged Studios has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of Yellow Lab Games, marking its third development acquisition of the year. While the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that Yellow Lab will maintain its operational independence, according to GI.biz.

Continued Growth and Development

Yellow Lab Games is currently working on its roguelite RPG, Metavoidal, which is scheduled for release on Steam in the first quarter of 2025. This acquisition follows Reforged’s earlier purchases of Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios in August, underscoring the company’s aggressive growth strategy.

Peter Van Der Watt, CEO and founder of Reforged, expressed his long-standing admiration for South Africa’s game development talent. “Growing up in South Africa, I have always been aware of the incredible game development talent the country hosts,” he stated. “Yellow Lab Games have been on my radar for some time, especially since seeing the positive reaction to Metavoidal, their first foray into PC and console gaming.”

Van Der Watt, who established his first game studio in Scotland in 2011, has been a vocal advocate for South African game development on the global stage. He added, “Today the whole of Reforged’s board shares my enthusiasm for the region’s potential. So when the opportunity arose to have David Hecker and his team join our group, we did not hesitate. We are all really excited to add South Africa’s top games talent to the Reforged team and fully expect this to be the beginning of a broader investment in Africa’s burgeoning gaming scene.”
