TOHO Games has unveiled an exciting new addition to the gaming landscape with the announcement of Tensui no Sakuna Hime: Hinuka Junreitan, a mobile and PC game that merges rice cultivation simulation with exploration and battle RPG elements. This innovative title is set to expand on the beloved universe of Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin, originally developed by Edelweiss.
Game Details and Features
Scheduled for release on both smartphones and PC via Steam, Tensui no Sakuna Hime: Hinuka Junreitan will be available as a free-to-play title, featuring optional in-game purchases. The game showcases a vibrant visual style, highlighting the main character Sakuna alongside a new character named Hinuka, who will be voiced by Machico. Naomi Ōzora reprises her role as the voice of Sakuna, ensuring continuity for fans of the franchise.
The development of this title is a collaborative effort between Edelweiss and TOHO Games, with G2 Studios taking the lead on development. The character design and supervision are in the capable hands of Ryōta Murayama, known for his distinctive artistic style.
Franchise Expansion
The Sakuna franchise continues to grow, with an anime adaptation that premiered on TV Tokyo and its affiliates in July 2024, streamed by Crunchyroll. A sequel to the anime is already in the works, further solidifying the franchise’s popularity. The original game, which launched in November 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, has captivated players with its unique narrative.
Players assume the role of Sakuna, a proud yet lonely harvest goddess who finds herself banished to a perilous island inhabited by outcast humans. To reclaim her honor, Sakuna must tame the island by defeating demons using farm tools as weapons, while also utilizing her magical “celestial scarf” to grapple distant enemies and traverse platforms.
In addition to the new mobile title, the franchise is set to welcome a spinoff game titled Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation, which will be published in the West by XSEED and Marvelous Europe. The franchise’s reach extends to the literary realm as well, with the manga adaptation Tensui no Sakuna Hime: Ikusa Datara no Kamigami, which ran from November 2021 to November 2022 under the supervision of Marvelous.
As the Sakuna universe continues to evolve, both new and returning players can look forward to rich storytelling and engaging gameplay experiences that blend tradition with innovation.
