This week, developer SlugGlove and publisher Yogscast Games unveiled their upcoming semi-open world puzzle adventure game, Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times. Set to launch on PC via Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles in early 2026, the game invites players into a captivating realm where creativity and problem-solving reign supreme.
Gameplay Mechanics and Exploration
In Rhell, players will have the unique opportunity to craft spells by combining magical runes, allowing for a personalized approach to puzzle-solving. The game features a rich tapestry of environmental puzzles spread across 14 main areas, where players can utilize one to five keywords to cast spells that yield distinct outcomes based on their combinations. This open-ended design encourages experimentation, as players can explore various solutions to each challenge they encounter.
Simon Byron, Managing Director of Yogscast Games, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re excited to introduce Rhell, a fun puzzle adventure that encourages players to experiment, inspires creativity, and offers a fresh take on the puzzle genre.” He emphasized the game’s depth in storytelling and emotional development, as players accompany Rhell on her quest for answers in a world where many have mysteriously vanished.
Players will guide Rhell, a spirited mage, alongside her companion Beesle, a helpful beetle offering hints throughout their journey. As Rhell interacts with various characters, her personal growth unfolds, revealing layers of the narrative while players uncover clues that lead to the heart of the mystery. The potential for different outcomes based on completed puzzles and interactions with NPCs adds a layer of intrigue to the gameplay.
Spell Crafting and Puzzle Variety
The game’s design allows for a free-roaming experience, with players encountering obstacles such as blocked paths and movable objects. Overcoming these challenges requires unlocking new spell combinations, with a staggering 40 different runes available for crafting spells. This results in over 102 million possible permutations, ensuring that each puzzle presents players with a wealth of creative problem-solving options.
As part of the Tiny Teams festival, which celebrates games developed by solo creators and micro studios, Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times will be showcased from August 7-14. For those eager to dive into the experience, a demo is currently available on Steam, offering a glimpse into the enchanting world of Rhell.
