Ubisoft and Xbox Collaboration Expands
In a recent announcement on Xbox Wire, Microsoft and Ubisoft have revealed an extension of their partnership, particularly benefiting players on the Xbox Series X|S. This collaboration allows gamers who own select Ubisoft titles on Xbox to access their PC versions at no additional cost. However, this offer does not extend to those who purchased these games through the Xbox PC store, which may leave some users feeling overlooked.

In a related move, Ubisoft recently added over 80 games to the Xbox PC store, many of which are included in the Ubisoft+ Classics subscription that comes with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. However, it is important to note that none of these titles support the Xbox Play Anywhere feature. This limitation means that players will miss out on achievements, save synchronization, and other core Xbox functionalities, which some might consider a missed opportunity for a more integrated gaming experience.
As stated in the announcement, “From today, customers that purchase a digital version of the listed titles will immediately get the Xbox console and Xbox on PC digital versions. For existing owners of an Xbox digital version of the listed titles, you will receive the PC version during a progressive rollout period until August 4.” To access these titles, players will need to utilize the Ubisoft Connect PC app, which has faced its share of technical difficulties, leaving some users frustrated with error messages during updates.
On a positive note, the games are reportedly well-optimized for handheld devices like the Xbox Ally X, and some titles do offer progression syncing between PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles via Ubisoft Connect—when the app is functioning properly. Nonetheless, this experience often pales in comparison to the seamless integration provided by Xbox’s native Play Anywhere feature.
While this latest initiative from Ubisoft is a step in the right direction, many gamers remain hopeful for a more robust implementation of Xbox features across Ubisoft’s offerings on PC and handhelds. For those seeking a more authentic Xbox experience, streaming options such as Xbox Cloud Gaming or Xbox Remote Play may prove to be more reliable alternatives.
