Sonic Racing CrossWorlds launches in September with Hatsune Miku, Persona 5, and Minecraft collabs

SEGA has officially announced the much-anticipated release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, set to hit the gaming scene on September 25, 2025. This latest installment in the beloved Sonic kart-racing franchise will be available across a wide array of platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. With a fresh cross-dimensional twist to gameplay and an expanded character roster, it promises to shake up the racing genre.

Unveiled during the Summer Game Fest 2025, SEGA has opened pre-orders, which come with enticing perks such as three days of early access before the official launch. Among the pre-order bonuses is the Werehog Pack, inspired by the classic Sonic Unleashed, while the Digital Deluxe Edition will feature a special Sonic Prime character pack.

The game boasts an impressive lineup of 24 tracks and introduces an innovative CrossWorlds mechanic. After completing the first lap, the leading player will select a portal that transports all racers into a new dimension for the second lap, effectively altering the race’s layout and scenery in real-time.

In a notable move, SEGA has confirmed that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will support full cross-play, enabling players from all platforms to compete against one another. This feature distinguishes the game from its competitors and positions it as a formidable contender in the kart-racing arena, especially following the recent launch of Mario Kart World.

Hatsune Miku, Joker, and Minecraft characters join the race

The character roster is set to feature a remarkable array of guest stars, including the iconic Hatsune Miku and Joker from Persona 5, both of whom will be available as free post-launch content alongside Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon. These characters will race alongside fan-favorites such as Sonic, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Metal Sonic.

Additionally, SEGA has announced a collaboration with Minecraft, introducing characters like Steve, Alex, and Creeper into the racing mix. Players can look forward to tracks inspired by Minecraft’s Overworld and Nether, complete with themed minecart vehicles. This content will be exclusive to the Season Pass and Digital Deluxe Edition.

With its multi-platform capabilities, star-studded guest appearances, and inventive gameplay mechanics, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise’s history.
