Star Wars Battlefront 2 Secret Easter Egg Found After 20 Years

In 2005, Pandemic Studios and EA introduced gamers to the expansive universe of Star Wars with the release of Battlefront 2, a third-person shooter that captured the essence of the beloved franchise. Celebrated by many as one of the finest entries in the Star Wars gaming canon, the title has continued to resonate with fans over the years.

Unearthing Hidden Treasures

Fast forward two decades, and a delightful discovery has emerged from the depths of this classic game. On August 9, Iamashaymin, a modder and the lead developer behind Battlefront III Legacy, shared a captivating video on YouTube revealing an undocumented easter egg nestled within the 2005 title. This secret was uncovered during the decompilation of the PC version of Battlefront 2.

The revelation is both simple and intriguing: players can create a new in-game profile named “Wampa” and, upon loading the game mode “Hunt” on the Endor map, unlock a new playable unit on the Imperial side. Traditionally, this mode featured only the valiant Ewok warriors and the formidable Imperial Stormtrooper snipers. However, with the Wampa profile, players can now embody the iconic Yeti-like creature from The Empire Strikes Back, adding a fresh twist to the gameplay.

This hidden gem was initially discovered by S1thK3nny, another modder currently developing a mod that aims to push the boundaries of Battlefront 2 by removing many of the game’s previous limitations and introducing new animations. During their exploration of the game’s code, they stumbled upon this secret, which had eluded modders for years. According to Iamashaymin, the reason for its obscurity lies in its placement within the game code, situated deeper than where most modders typically delve.

It’s important to note that this Wampa secret is exclusive to the PC version of Battlefront 2. Console versions do not support this feature, and players will also find that it cannot be activated in online play. However, the Wampa can be unleashed in split-screen mode on PC, particularly through the Classic Collection version of the game set to release in 2024.
