Steam’s new VR headset, Steam Frame, will support Android games

Valve Unveils Steam Frame VR Headset with Android Games Support

Valve has recently announced its latest innovation in the world of virtual reality – the Steam Frame wireless VR headset. In a recent interview with The Verge, Valve shared that the new headset will offer support for Android games, bridging the gap between Steam and Android gaming platforms.

The goal, according to Valve, is to make the gaming experience seamless for players, allowing them to easily access and play their favorite titles without any hassle. By utilizing the same Android APKs that developers use to port mobile games to devices like Meta Quest, Steam Frame aims to provide a wide range of gaming options for users.

Valve is also launching a developer kit program to assist developers in bringing their Android games to Steam Frame. Despite the differences between SteamOS and Android, the headset’s Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip will be able to run Android apps without the need for translation.

Valve engineer Jeremy Selan emphasized that developers familiar with creating APKs for Meta Quest and Android phones can now effortlessly bring their games to Steam Frame, ensuring a smooth transition for both developers and players.

In addition to the Steam Frame VR headset, Valve also announced the release of a new Steam controller and a next-gen Steam Machine. These products are set to be available in regions where Steam Decks are currently sold, including the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Specific pricing and launch dates are yet to be confirmed.
