Creative Assembly, the developer behind Total War: Warhammer 3, has acknowledged the challenges faced over the past year, particularly as the release of the much-anticipated Tides of Torment expansion has been delayed for a second time. In a recent blog post, Adam Freeman, head of community, addressed ongoing issues with the campaign AI, including persistent bugs affecting several popular factions, while also outlining plans for the upcoming TWW3 7.0 update.
Challenges and Priorities
The journey for Total War: Warhammer 3 has been tumultuous, especially in recent months. Despite successfully resolving a unit-recruitment bug that impacted the Tomb Kings and Lizardmen, similar issues continue to plague other factions, such as the Beastmen and Chaos Dwarfs. Freeman emphasized the team’s commitment to prioritizing urgent fixes, stating, “We want to be clear with you that while we want to get new content out for you, we know we must prioritize any urgent fixes to get the game in a better place for you all.”
Freeman expressed regret over the current state of the game, acknowledging that the team failed to appropriately prioritize certain issues. He indicated that moving forward, similar bugs will be classified as “showstopper, severity-A,” ensuring that any future problems of this nature will be treated with the urgency they require.
Expansion and Updates
The Tides of Torment expansion, which introduces new legendary lords for Slaanesh, Norsca, and the High Elves, is now set to launch on Thursday, December 4. Freeman noted, “This will be our second delay to the release of this DLC and will arrive a year after the launch of our last one. We know this is frustrating for you; it is for all of us too.” He reiterated the team’s determination to avoid repeating past mistakes.
Alongside the expansion, the TWW3 update 7.0 will bring significant enhancements to the three featured factions. This update will also introduce a free legendary lord, The Masque of Slaanesh, who will lead players through “The Eternal Dance,” a dynamic campaign mechanic that rewards aggressive play and momentum through themed army dances.
New Mod Manager and Future Plans
Freeman also announced that the long-awaited Total War mod manager is nearing completion. With the launch of update 7.0, players will have the option to bypass the old Total War launcher or utilize the new application to manage their addons. The legacy option will remain available until the mod manager reaches version 1.0, ensuring a smooth transition for those engaged in modded campaigns.
In an exciting development, Creative Assembly is preparing to unveil the future of Total War during a 25th-anniversary showcase on December 4. This event will feature the TWW Championship, roundtable discussions, and reveals of new historical and fantasy titles, presented by the creators behind these upcoming games. The hope is that by this time, the most pressing bugs in TWW3 will be under control.
The next Total War: Warhammer 3 DLC, Tides of Torment, is now scheduled for release on Thursday, December 4, coinciding with the game update 7.0 and the new Total War mod manager. Freeman has promised a first look at gameplay for the new expansion on November 6, generating anticipation among fans.
