GTA 6 is generating considerable excitement among fans, with speculation swirling around its potential release on various platforms. While the game has been officially confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the question of a PC version remains a hot topic. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has provided hints that suggest a PC release is likely, although no official announcement has been made yet.
Why a GTA 6 PC version is all but confirmed
Earlier this year, Take-Two’s CEO addressed the possibility of a PC version for GTA 6, indicating that the company typically focuses on console launches first before considering other platforms. While he stopped short of confirming a PC release, the absence of other viable platforms—especially given that the Nintendo Switch did not receive GTA 5—suggests that PC is the most logical choice for any subsequent releases. Whether it lands on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or a cloud service like GeForce Now, it seems almost certain that GTA 6 will make its way to PC eventually; the timing, however, remains uncertain.
But here’s why a GTA 6 PC version likely won’t be ready by Fall 2025
Historically, Rockstar has a pattern of delaying PC releases for its major titles. For instance, GTA 5 was released on Windows 18 months after its initial console launch, while Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a slightly quicker timeline, debuting on PC 13 months after its console release. This trend suggests that GTA 6 will likely see its console launch in Fall 2025, with a PC version expected to follow sometime between late 2026 and early 2027.
Another compelling reason for a PC release lies in the enduring popularity of GTA Online. The PC version has fostered a vibrant ecosystem of mods and third-party role-playing servers, which have sustained player engagement for years. With Rockstar’s acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, a significant player in the GTA Online modding community, it seems unlikely that the company would overlook this aspect of their business when launching a new title. Instead, it would make strategic sense for Rockstar to build upon this success by bringing GTA 6 to PC at the appropriate time.
