In a recent announcement, Meta has confirmed that the Messenger app for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac will be discontinued starting Monday, December 15. The company stated in the Messenger Help Centre: “The Messenger app for Windows/Mac is being deprecated.” Following this transition, users will no longer be able to log into the app and will be automatically redirected to the Facebook desktop app for Microsoft or the website for Mac users to continue their messaging experience.

Despite this change, Mac and Windows users will still have the option to access Messenger through the Facebook app or the Messenger website, ensuring that communication remains uninterrupted.

Meta further advises that users who have not yet enabled secure storage should do so and set up a PIN through their desktop app to ensure their chat history is saved before transitioning to the web version. Once users migrate to Facebook.com, their chat history will be accessible across all platforms.

Meta has been approached for additional comments regarding this transition.
