Android Auto gets redesigned Spotify app with ‘Jam’ support & more [Gallery]

Spotify has unveiled a fresh redesign for its Android Auto app, coinciding with the latest update that enhances user experience while driving. This update, which follows the announcement made at Google I/O 2025 earlier this year, introduces a range of new features, including the much-anticipated “Jam” functionality.

Among the notable changes is the revamped “Downloaded” section within the Library. This enhancement allows users to easily access their offline music, a particularly useful feature for those navigating through areas with limited connectivity. Additionally, users will now notice indicators on downloaded tracks while browsing through albums or playlists, streamlining the listening experience.

The user interface has also received subtle yet impactful updates, including a new floating Search shortcut. This feature directs users to a dedicated search page within the app, moving beyond the previous reliance on Google Assistant for music searches. Now, users can actively search for specific albums or tracks and view the results directly in the app, enhancing overall usability.

Perhaps the most exciting addition is the “Jam” feature, located on the “Now Playing” page. This innovative tool generates a QR code that allows other users to join in on the music experience by adding their selections to the current queue. The driver acts as the host, managing the playlist while passengers can contribute their favorite tracks, making it an ideal feature for road trips. Should the need arise, the driver retains the ability to remove any guest from the queue with ease.

This update is part of Spotify version 9.0.58.596 for Android, which is currently available for download via the Play Store. As Spotify embraces the evolving landscape of Android Auto, other media applications are expected to follow suit, with Google confirming that platforms like Amazon Music and YouTube Music will also benefit from similar enhancements in the near future.
