Apple TV+ crosses enemy lines, will be available as an Android app starting today

In a notable shift towards inclusivity, Apple has announced the integration of its Apple TV+ subscription service within both the Android and Google TV applications. This enhancement allows users to subscribe directly through Google’s payment system, a significant upgrade from the previous model where users had to initiate their subscriptions on a separate device.

Subscription Details

Apple TV+ is priced at .99 per month, with an option for a bundled Apple One subscription at .95 per month. This bundle includes 2TB of iCloud storage, access to Apple Music, and support for Apple Arcade. Additionally, new users can take advantage of a seven-day free trial of Apple TV+ to explore the content available on the platform.

For sports enthusiasts, the MLS Season Pass is offered as a standalone subscription at .99 per month or for the entire season. Notably, subscribers who opt for both Apple TV+ and the MLS Season Pass can enjoy a discount of per month or annually on the MLS subscription.

Content and Competition

Apple TV+ has garnered attention for its critically acclaimed original programming, featuring popular titles such as Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, and Severance. Despite these successes, the platform has struggled to achieve subscriber numbers comparable to industry giants. Reports indicate that Apple has invested approximately billion in original content for Apple TV+, yet the service boasts only about 10 percent of Netflix’s subscriber base. As noted by Bloomberg last July, “Apple TV+ generates less viewing in one month than Netflix does in one day.”

The introduction of an Android app could potentially alter this trajectory, although the impact remains uncertain. By expanding its accessibility, Apple is positioning itself more competitively alongside other streaming services that have long supported both Apple and Android devices.
