Google has unveiled the global launch of its innovative Gemini feature, now available on Android Auto and vehicles equipped with Google built-in technology. This rollout includes the introduction of Personal Intelligence with Gemini, which will initially be accessible through Android Auto, with plans to extend to cars with Google built-in in the upcoming months.
Gemini Personal Intelligence Features
With user consent, Personal Intelligence seamlessly integrates information from various Google services—such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search—to deliver tailored responses during in-car conversations. This feature is designed to enhance the driving experience by providing relevant information at the driver’s fingertips.
Google has provided several illustrative scenarios showcasing how this feature can be utilized while on the road:
- Check flight details: Gemini can access an email to retrieve a flight’s gate information and provide updates on its status.
- Find restaurants based on preferences: Users can request Gemini to locate dining options along their route that cater to specific dietary needs, such as vegetarian-friendly establishments.
- Navigate to appointments: Gemini can identify the destination of an appointment, like a doctor’s office, and offer navigation assistance without the driver needing to remember the address.
- Find places from photos: Drivers can ask Gemini to recognize a car wash captured in a previous photo and guide them there.
- Return to previously discussed places: Utilizing conversation context, Gemini can help locate a coffee shop that was mentioned the day before and provide directions.
Privacy & Personal Intelligence Settings
To ensure user privacy, Personal Intelligence requires individuals to select which apps they wish to connect. Users have the flexibility to disable this feature at any time via the Gemini settings. In vehicles with Google built-in, personalized responses will only be available when the user is present in the car with their phone connected.
Even without Personal Intelligence, Gemini remains capable of handling standard in-car tasks such as navigation, music playback, making calls, and answering queries. However, responses will lack the personalization derived from the user’s private information.
Gemini Personal Intelligence Availability
Google has outlined the following details regarding the rollout and eligibility for Gemini’s Personal Intelligence:
- Android Auto: The rollout is set to commence on October 21, 2026.
- Cars with Google built-in: Availability is anticipated in the coming months.
- Eligible accounts: Personal Google accounts for users aged 18 and older. Those who have activated Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app can utilize it in their vehicles, while others can adjust their preferences through the Gemini settings.
- Excluded accounts: Google Workspace accounts, including those for business, enterprise, and education, will not have access.
- Excluded regions: The rollout will not include users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.
This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing in-car experiences, allowing eligible users to access pertinent information from connected Google services through intuitive voice interactions.
