Transition to Gemini
In a strategic move announced last year, Google revealed its plans to retire the Assistant app, directing users towards its new offering, Gemini. This next-generation assistant leverages advanced artificial intelligence technologies, promising to enhance user interaction and functionality.
Recently, Google has begun notifying users via email about the impending discontinuation of the Assistant app. The communication states, “We’re writing to let you know that the Google Assistant on your mobile device is being discontinued, and Gemini – our next-generation AI-powered assistant – is now the assistant experience on Android.” This shift is set to commence on September 4, with the transition process expected to unfold over several weeks.
Once the transition is complete, users will find that their devices will automatically switch to Gemini, provided they meet the necessary system requirements and are located in a region where Gemini is supported. This means that familiar commands, such as long-pressing the power button or saying “Hey Google,” will now summon the new virtual assistant.
The transition extends beyond smartphones; it will also affect other connected devices, including smartwatches and wireless earphones paired with the user’s mobile device. Gemini is designed to replicate the capabilities of Assistant, ensuring that users can still perform the same tasks and issue similar commands.
