In the ever-evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, Google is poised to solidify its competitive edge by seamlessly integrating its Gemini model into existing products and services. Among the innovative features on the horizon is the AI Mode for Google Search, which offers a glimpse into the transformative potential of AI in search engines. However, Google is also exploring a more personalized approach by utilizing users’ Google Search history to enhance the responses generated by Gemini.
The “Gemini Personalization model,” as unveiled by Android Authority, is an unannounced yet functional feature found in version 16.8.31 of the Google app beta. This experimental model is designed to provide assistance tailored to individual users based on their Search history. By opting to connect their Google Search history to Gemini, users can expect more customized responses to their inquiries. A prompt within the app states, “This version of Gemini uses your Google Search history to give you personalized help. In order to use it, you’ll need to first connect Gemini to your Search history. You can always disconnect it later.”
Google emphasizes that the search history will solely influence the Gemini Personalization model and will not affect other models. Furthermore, interactions using this personalized feature will not contribute to the training or enhancement of Gemini. Data will be retained within Gemini Apps and Activity but will be purged after a period of 60 days.
To harness the capabilities of the Gemini Personalization model, users must enable Web and App Activity in their Gemini settings.
Initial assessments by Android Authority indicate that the Gemini Personalization model effectively utilizes a user’s Google Search history to deliver relevant responses. Notably, searches dating back to January 2025 have been referenced by the model. However, it is important to note that “some Gemini features are not available in this version,” and access may be limited to Google One AI Premium users. As of now, Google has yet to make a formal announcement regarding this feature.
