LG’s exit from the smartphone arena, announced just over four years ago, is now culminating in the imminent cessation of software updates for its Android devices. As the company prepares to close this chapter, the countdown has begun for the final updates to its smartphones.
When LG decided to withdraw from the competitive smartphone market, it pledged to provide a series of updates, including the much-anticipated Android 12 for select models. This marked the last significant update the company would issue, alongside a commitment to deliver security updates for a minimum of three years following each device’s launch. However, that three-year window has long since elapsed for all LG smartphones, and the time has come for the remaining devices to face the reality of no further updates.
On June 30, LG will officially deactivate its servers responsible for delivering Android updates. Following this date, any LG smartphones still in circulation will be unable to receive over-the-air updates or utilize the LG Bridge application for software enhancements. The announcement of this shutdown was made public on April 10, as highlighted by Android Authority.
