Opera continues to enhance its browsers with innovative artificial intelligence features, recently extending these advancements to its Android application. Following the initial launch of AI-powered Opera Neon in October, and subsequent updates to Opera One and Opera GX, the company is now integrating AI capabilities into its mobile platform.
The latest update introduces contextual AI and visual intelligence. Contextual AI allows users to leverage the content of their current tab or webpage as part of their prompts, while visual intelligence enables the attachment of images and files directly within the search bar for AI analysis. This strategic enhancement aims to align the mobile browsing experience more closely with the AI functionalities already present in Opera One on desktop, facilitating a seamless interaction with websites as context for queries.
AI on Android
A new access point for AI has been positioned conveniently beside the search box, allowing users to easily toggle between a traditional search engine and the Ask AI feature. By tapping the bar, users can swiftly alternate between options without navigating through multiple menus. Opera’s intention is to simplify AI usage on mobile devices, particularly for those seeking quick summaries or explanations.
The visual intelligence upgrade permits users to attach files directly from the search field. Whether it’s a document requiring translation or a photo needing clarification, users can simply drop the item into the input area, where the AI will process it and respond to any follow-up inquiries. This feature supports both images stored on the device and those captured in real-time with the camera.
Contextual AI significantly reduces the amount of typing required. By utilizing the content from the current tab, users can effortlessly provide articles, technical papers, recipes, or guides to the AI in a single action. Importantly, only the content from the specific tab is utilized; browsing history or unrelated pages are not included in the context. Furthermore, the context is transmitted only when necessary for a prompt, ensuring encryption and a retention period of no more than thirty days before automatic deletion from Opera’s servers. The company emphasizes that user data is not utilized for AI training or advertising purposes.
This AI update is now available for download through the Play Store, inviting users to explore the integration of AI as a fundamental component of their mobile browsing experience.
