Google has unveiled a series of enhancements for the Pixel Phone app, alongside an announcement regarding its international availability. The tech giant recognizes the significance of Call Recording as a “fundamentally useful feature,” even in the absence of AI-driven summaries or transcriptions. This feature will soon be accessible in all countries where Pixel devices are supported, with a gradual rollout expected throughout the year.
Specifically, Call Recording will be available for Pixel 6 and newer models, although devices lacking support for richer Call Notes functionality will be excluded. A disclaimer will accompany this feature to ensure respect for the privacy of the other party on the call.
International Expansion of Calling Features
In addition to the call recording feature, Google is broadening its calling functionalities across various international markets:
- Scam Detection is set to expand to Australia, Canada, Great Britain, India, and Ireland.
- Call Notes will be introduced in Australia, Canada, India, and Ireland as part of a beta preview later this year.
- Call Screen will soon be available in Australia, Canada, and Ireland. In India, Pixel 10 users will receive a beta version of Manual Call Screen, initially supporting English and Hindi.
Google is also working on a feature to assist users in India who may not share a common language with the caller, enabling translation of Call Screen interactions into the user’s preferred language.
Furthermore, today’s announcement highlighted features such as Magic Cue and Voice Translate on the Pixel 10, as well as the Take a Message function. All users of the Pixel Phone app will benefit from the Material 3 Expressive design, which aims to deliver a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.
The revamped Favorites carousel at the top of the Home tab, along with a streamlined recent calls list, is designed to minimize navigation between screens. Additionally, users will enjoy the convenience of horizontal swipe and single-tap options for answering or declining calls, enhancing overall usability.
