Transaction Network Services (TNS) has introduced an innovative capability known as Bring Your Own App (BYOA), designed to empower operators in the payment industry. This new offering allows operators to swiftly create and deploy their own customer-facing applications on TNS’s Android-based unattended payment terminals, all while alleviating the complexities associated with payment processing, compliance, and certification.
Streamlining Payment Experiences
As the demand for tailored payment experiences continues to rise, operators are increasingly seeking ways to innovate without the burdens of application development, PCI compliance, and ongoing maintenance. TNS’s BYOA capability addresses this challenge by enabling operators to develop and deploy Android applications on TNS-supported unattended retail and fuel payment terminals, while TNS takes care of the underlying payment processing and compliance requirements.
With a flexible integrated model, BYOA enhances the customer payment experience through:
- Seamless integration of the operator’s Android application with the TNS payment application via a defined payments API to initiate transactions.
- Management of card capture, PIN collection, encryption, EMV processing, and payment certification by TNS.
- Prior approval and signing of each operator application by TNS before it can be executed on the terminal.
This approach provides developers with a streamlined integration point, allowing them to focus on enhancing customer experiences without the usual security and compliance burdens.
David Hore, Senior Director of Payments Product Portfolio at TNS Payments Market, remarked, “Operators have historically had to choose between innovating on customer experience or taking on the complexity of payments. BYOA is designed to remove that compromise. Our customers can build applications that enhance their unique selling propositions, while we manage the payments, compliance, and certification that underpin every transaction.” This managed service model enables customers to concentrate on their core business activities.
In addition to fostering customer experience innovation, BYOA simplifies ongoing payment operations. Its decoupled architecture allows for the separation of acquirer keys from terminal keys, enabling operators to switch acquirers or adjust rates without the need to update physical terminals. This flexibility significantly reduces operational burdens.
Michael Johnson, Global Managing Director of Payments Market Business at TNS, emphasized the importance of this flexibility, stating, “BYOA gives customers the freedom to create differentiated experiences that reflect their brand and their customers’ needs, backed by a payments foundation they can trust.”
BYOA is now available across TNS’s Android-based unattended payment terminal platform, including retail and fuel payment terminals. This initiative is part of TNS’s broader strategy to simplify payment processes while encouraging greater innovation among customers.
