Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.4520 (Beta Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.4520 (KB5060834) to the Beta Channel for those utilizing Windows 11, version 24H2. This update brings a variety of new features, improvements, and fixes, which are being gradually rolled out to Insiders who have opted in to receive the latest updates through Settings > Windows Update.

Passwordless Improvements

In collaboration with 1Password, we are excited to introduce a seamless plugin passkey provider integration for Windows 11 users. The setup process is designed to be straightforward:

  • Install 1Password Beta on your Windows 11 PC.
  • Navigate to Settings > Passkeys > Advanced options to enable the plugin credential manager.
  • Activate support and complete user verification using Windows Hello (face, fingerprint, or PIN).
  • Utilize your existing passkeys stored in the plugin credential manager or save new passkeys effortlessly.

To sign in using a passkey, simply visit a website where you have an account linked to a saved passkey, select it, and authenticate quickly with Windows Hello.

For those developing credential managers, we encourage you to integrate with Windows 11 to enhance the passkey experience for your customers. More details can be found at this link.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

[Voice access]

  • Support for Japanese has been temporarily disabled as we work to resolve some bugs.

[Settings]

In addition to previous adjustments made in the EEA region regarding default browsers via Settings > Apps > Default apps, we are implementing the following change:

  • The new default browser will now be pinned to the Taskbar and Start menu unless you opt out by unchecking the relevant boxes.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*

[File Explorer]

  • Resolved an issue that could lead to crashes in File Explorer Home, potentially affecting the launch of File Explorer itself.
  • Fixed a problem causing the thumbnail for a pinned favorite in Home to disappear.

[Start menu]

  • Addressed an issue that resulted in duplicate entries appearing when interacting with folders in the Start menu.
  • Corrected an animation issue related to folder expansion in certain scenarios.

[Input]

  • Fixed a high-impact crash involving ctfmon.exe, which could hinder typing capabilities.

[Other]

  • Resolved a memory leak that could occur when the lock screen was set to display a slideshow, potentially affecting performance over time.
  • Improved the responsiveness of system dialogs to increased text scaling, ensuring better usability.

Known issues

[General]

  • [UPDATED!] New Beta Channel joiners on Windows 11, version 24H2 will now receive the most current update available, bypassing Build 26120.4250.
  • [UPDATED!] Some users may encounter a rollback issue while installing this update, indicated by a 0x80070005 error in Windows Update. A temporary fix may be found by navigating to Settings > System > Recovery > “Fix issues using Windows Update.”

[Start menu]

Known issues for Windows Insiders with the new Start menu include:

  • Touch navigation may not function reliably, particularly the swipe-up gesture.
  • Drag and drop capabilities are limited from “All” to “Pinned.”

[Xbox Controllers]

  • Some users have reported that using their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth may cause their PC to bugcheck. To resolve this, open Device Manager, locate the driver named “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf),” right-click it, and select “Uninstall.”

[Click to Do (Preview)]

Upcoming updates will address the following known issues:

  • Windows Insiders on AMD or Intel™-powered Copilot+ PCs may experience delays when performing intelligent text actions in Click to Do after a new build or model update.

[File Explorer]

Known issues for AI actions in File Explorer include:

  • Narrator scan mode may not function correctly in the action result canvas window for the Summarize AI action when reading bulleted lists. A workaround is to use Caps + Right key for navigation.

[Widgets]

  • Current limitations in pinning within the new widgets board experience may revert you back to the previous interface.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel

  • Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 via an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx).
  • Updates delivered to the Beta Channel provide a preview of enhancements to servicing technology on Windows 11, version 24H2. For further information, visit this link.
  • Many features in the Beta Channel are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, beginning with a subset of Insiders and expanding over time based on feedback.
  • To be among the first to receive features gradually rolled out to you, ensure the toggle is set to ON for the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update. If the toggle is OFF, new features will be introduced to your PC over time as they become ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may not be released publicly, as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Changes, removals, or replacements may occur, with some features potentially appearing in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Localization for features in active development may not be fully completed and will be addressed as features are finalized. Please report any localization issues via the Feedback Hub.
  • Note that some accessibility features may not function with features like Recall and Click to Do while in preview.
  • As the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths, there may be instances where features debut in the Beta Channel first.
