New features gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on*
Seamless App Resumption from Android Phone to PC
A notable enhancement is the ability to seamlessly resume your favorite apps from your Android phone on your Windows 11 PC. Initially, this feature will allow users to continue listening to Spotify tracks right from where they left off on their mobile device. When you play a song or episode on your Android phone, a ‘Resume alert’ will appear on your PC’s taskbar. Clicking this alert will launch the Spotify desktop app, allowing you to continue your listening experience without interruption.
If the Spotify app is not installed on your PC, clicking the alert will initiate a one-click installation from the Microsoft Store. You will then be prompted to sign into your Spotify account, ensuring a smooth transition between devices.
To set up this feature, follow these steps:
- Turn on access to your phone:
- On your PC, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices.
- Enable “Allow this PC to access your mobile devices”.
- Click the “Manage devices” button and follow the prompts to connect your Android phone.
- Set up the Link to Windows app on your phone:
- Open the Link to Windows app on your Android device.
- Ensure the app is allowed to run in the background for reliable functionality.
- Try the feature:
- Play a track or episode on Spotify from your phone.
- A Resume alert should appear on your PC’s taskbar.
Once set up, simply play a track on your phone to receive the alert on your PC. This feature is being rolled out gradually, so patience may be required as it becomes available to all users.
For App Developers: We encourage developers to integrate with the Resume feature, allowing users to continue tasks seamlessly across devices. More information on integration can be found here.
