Microsoft is enhancing its Copilot application on Windows, introducing a feature that allows users to generate Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs directly from the chat interface. This new functionality is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders, with plans for a broader release to all Windows 11 users in the near future.
With this update, users can transform their ideas, notes, and data into shareable and editable documents with just a simple prompt. The Copilot team at Microsoft emphasizes the ease of use, stating, “With no extra steps or tools required, you can instantly create documents.” For longer responses exceeding 600 characters, a default export button will facilitate direct transfers to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF formats.
Additionally, the updated Copilot app offers the option to connect to Outlook and Gmail accounts, enabling the AI assistant to access content from these online platforms. Users can request Copilot to retrieve specific information, such as locating invoices from a particular company in their inbox or obtaining contact email addresses.
This feature is opt-in, requiring users to explicitly link their Outlook or Google accounts through the app’s connectors section. The integration supports various services, including OneDrive, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts, reminiscent of the recent integration of Google Drive and Dropbox in OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
As this updated version of Copilot makes its debut, it coincides with the upcoming release of a revamped OneDrive app slated for next year. This new OneDrive application promises to include a gallery view, AI-powered slideshows, and enhanced editing capabilities, further enriching the user experience within the Microsoft ecosystem.
