Microsoft has unveiled a new non-security preview update for Windows 11, identified as KB5043145. This update, however, does not include the much-anticipated Windows 11 version 24H2 feature update, as it is designed for the existing versions 23H2 and 22H2. Speculation from Neowin suggests that there may be a delay in the rollout of the next feature update, which was initially slated for a September 2024 preview.
Gradual Rollout
The new features will be introduced gradually, meaning not all users will receive them at the same time.
- [Taskbar] New! Users can now share local files directly from the search results displayed in the Search box on the taskbar.
- [Settings] New! The Delivery Optimization Settings page has been redesigned to align with the Windows 11 aesthetic. Navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Delivery Optimization to explore the updates.
- [Windows Share] New! The search box has been removed from the Windows Share window, streamlining the sharing process.
- [Lock Screen] New! Media controls are now prominently displayed at the center of the lower lock screen while media is playing, enhancing user accessibility.
- [Start Menu] New! The “Sign out” option has been conveniently added to the account manager within the Start menu. Users can easily switch accounts by selecting the ellipses (…), which reveals a list of other users.
Normal Rollout
- [Microsoft Edge] Users may experience occasional unresponsiveness when utilizing IE mode.
- [Windows Identity Protection] Users will now only need to enter their credentials once for Outlook or other encrypted email applications, as they will be prompted for their PIN only a single time.
- [Copilot Pro Subscription] New! Management of the Copilot Pro subscription can now be handled through Settings. Simply sign in to your Microsoft account and navigate to Settings > Accounts.
- [Task Manager] Users may find that the Task Manager stops responding when switching from a high contrast theme back to a normal theme.
