Windows 11 Canary build 27808 is out with better CPU monitoring in Task Manager and more

Windows Insiders engaged in the Canary Channel are now able to download build 27808, a release that brings enhancements to CPU monitoring within Task Manager, alongside a variety of fixes aimed at improving user experience across gaming, printing, search functionalities, graphics, BitLocker, and more.

Changes and Improvements

One of the most notable updates is the adjustment in how Task Manager calculates CPU utilization across its various pages—Processes, Performance, and Users. This change aligns the CPU workload display with industry standards and third-party tools, ensuring consistency. For users who prefer the previous metrics, an optional column labeled CPU Utility has been introduced on the Details tab, though it remains hidden by default.

Fixes

The update addresses several key issues:

[Gaming]

  • Resolved a bug that caused popular games, including Roblox, to experience a bugcheck (green screen) upon launch in Build 27802.

[Printing]

  • Corrected a problem where printing from certain applications could trigger a bugcheck (green screen) in Build 27802.

[Search]

  • Fixed a glitch that resulted in a blank search window for some Insiders when using the taskbar search, attributed to a background crash.

[Graphics]

  • Addressed an issue that could lead to Settings crashing when users attempted to add a color profile in Settings > System > Display.
  • Resolved a problem where color profiles failed to load correctly after the PC was awakened from sleep mode.

[Power and Battery]

  • Rectified an issue where the colors in the new battery icon were inaccurately displayed when specific customization options were selected in Personalization > Colors.

[BitLocker]

  • Improvements have been made to enhance the performance of loading early boot UI elements, including the BitLocker PIN and Recovery key screens.
  • Fixed a looping issue affecting a small number of Insiders in Build 27802.
  • Resolved an error that occurred when attempting to run Get-BitLockerVolume in recent flights.

[Other]

  • It is believed that a prior update addressed issues related to Hyper-V and other dependent features, such as WSL. Users experiencing ongoing problems are encouraged to submit feedback through the Feedback Hub.

Known Bugs

As with any preview build, several known bugs persist:

[General]

  • IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PCs: Users transitioning to the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail may encounter issues with Windows Hello PIN and biometrics, receiving error 0xd0000225 and the message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available.” Users can recreate their PIN by selecting “Set up my PIN.”
  • NEW: Investigations are underway regarding a d3d9.dll crash that is causing multiple applications to fail to launch, starting with Build 27802 for some Insiders.
