Windows 11 is set to enhance user experience with an array of artificial intelligence features that will be rolled out in the coming weeks. The availability of these tools will vary based on the specific hardware configuration of each PC. Users of Copilot+ PCs, particularly those equipped with Snapdragon X chips, will enjoy the most extensive suite of new functionalities, while all Windows 11 users can expect some exciting additions.
Windows Settings
A new agent within the Windows 11 Settings app allows users to modify their PC settings using natural language. This innovative feature, optimized for Copilot+ PCs, could pave the way for similar advancements across the platform. Currently, only Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon X chips can access this feature, while those with AMD and Intel processors will have to wait for a later release. The agent can manage hundreds of settings, from enabling quiet hours to connecting Bluetooth devices.
Click to Do
The Click to Do feature is gaining traction with regular updates from Microsoft. New actions being introduced include:
- Practice in Reading Coach
- Read with Immersive Reader
- Draft with Copilot in Word
- Support for actions through Microsoft Teams
For users with compatible Copilot+ PCs, Click to Do can be accessed by pressing the Windows key and clicking the mouse, or by using the shortcut Windows+Q or through the Snipping Tool. A comprehensive guide is available for those who are new to this feature or need a refresher.
Relight in Photos
The Photos app on Windows 11 is introducing Relight, an AI-driven feature that adds virtual light sources to images. Users can manipulate up to three light sources, adjusting their intensity and position. This feature is currently available for Snapdragon X-powered Copilot+ PCs, with a rollout for AMD and Intel models expected later.
Sticker Generator in Paint
The Sticker Generator is an exciting addition for all Copilot+ PCs, allowing users to create stickers by simply typing a prompt. The application generates a selection of stickers, which can be easily added to the canvas. Additionally, an object select feature will soon enable users to isolate subjects from images in Paint.
Snipping Tool Perfect Screenshot
Among the new features, the Perfect Screenshot tool in the Snipping Tool stands out. Utilizing AI, it captures content with precision, eliminating the need for time-consuming cropping and enhancing the overall quality of the screenshots. Users can access this feature by selecting the Perfect Screenshot button or by holding the Control key while choosing a capture area, with options to edit the selection before saving.
Snipping Tool Color Picker
A subtle yet practical enhancement to the Snipping Tool is the Color Picker, which allows users to identify HEX, RGB, or HSL values from any part of their screen, complete with zoom functionality for precise selections.
Copilot Vision on Windows
Currently available only in the United States, Copilot Vision offers users the ability to receive advice and suggestions based on the content displayed on their screens. The Highlights feature within Copilot Vision can guide users through specific tasks. While it can be accessed for free via Microsoft Edge, extending its capabilities to other applications requires a Copilot Pro subscription, priced at per user per month.
Quick Machine Recovery
The Quick Machine Recovery feature is designed to detect and resolve issues that may arise following unexpected restarts. Microsoft has replaced the notorious Blue Screen of Death with a more subdued design, which users will only see briefly, as most consumers will encounter it for just two seconds.
How to Get New Features
The new features for Windows 11 will be released gradually through a controlled feature rollout (CFR). Some functionalities are already accessible through the latest Windows non-security preview update. To expedite access to these features, users should navigate to Settings > Windows Update and enable the option to receive the latest updates as soon as they become available. After activating this setting, checking for updates and installing the non-security preview update is recommended. It is also advisable to ensure that the Paint, Photos, and Copilot apps are up to date. As mentioned, certain features are currently exclusive to Copilot+ PCs or those equipped with Snapdragon X processors.
