Google says Quick Share is coming to Windows on ARM, including Snapdragon laptops

In a notable development for users of ARM-powered Windows devices, Google has introduced its Quick Share app, designed to facilitate seamless file transfers between Android and Windows systems. This application is now accessible via a manual download from Google’s official website, marking a significant step for those utilizing Snapdragon X Elite laptops.

While Microsoft’s Phone Link service has long provided similar capabilities with a deeper integration into the Windows ecosystem, Quick Share distinguishes itself by allowing users to transfer files across multiple devices simultaneously, including those that are not owned by the user. This feature enhances the app’s versatility, catering to a broader audience.

However, the rollout has not been entirely smooth for all Windows users. Previously, Quick Share lacked support for ARM architecture, which meant that users of ARM devices faced challenges in utilizing the app. The absence of native support meant that even with workarounds, functionality was limited.

According to Google’s announcement, the Quick Share app is now compatible with ARM-based devices running Windows 11 and later. The Android website outlines the requirements clearly:

Windows computers (i.e., desktops and laptops) running a 64-bit version of Windows 10 and up (or Windows 11 and up for ARM-based devices). Download Quick Share and ensure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on your Windows PC.

In an update shortly after the initial announcement, it was confirmed that the app is indeed available for download on ARM-powered PCs. However, it is important to note that it is not yet a native ARM64 application, necessitating the use of emulation for installation.

Despite these advancements, some users have encountered installation errors. For instance, attempts to install the app on a Surface Laptop equipped with Snapdragon X Elite have resulted in the same issues that have persisted for months. It is anticipated that Google will soon release a proper download, possibly within the day. Updates will be provided as the situation evolves.

It appears that a new app update may be on the horizon, although the latest version primarily focused on addressing existing bugs rather than introducing new features.
