Microsoft is making significant strides in its mission to integrate PC gaming with Xbox features, as evidenced by the recent addition of over 400 games to the Xbox app. Chris Charla from Xbox shared this exciting development, highlighting a diverse array of titles including Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Jackbox Party Pack, and The Invincible. Notably, the update features contributions from esteemed Japanese developers such as Kemco and Kairosoft.
Expanding Gaming Horizons
Among the new offerings, approximately 100 titles support the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. This allows gamers to purchase a title on Xbox console and seamlessly transition to playing it on PC, enhancing the overall gaming experience. Charla emphasized the advantages of this integration, which include universal Xbox ownership, cloud saves that sync across platforms, and cross-play capabilities between console and PC users.
This move is part of a broader strategy by Microsoft to attract developers from competing digital storefronts. The company has notably reduced its revenue share from sales to a mere 12%, a significant incentive for developers looking to maximize their profits while reaching a wider audience.
Looking ahead, Charla teased that more announcements will be made at the upcoming Game Developers Conference 2025, scheduled for next March, hinting at further innovations and expansions in the Xbox ecosystem.
While Charla did not address the status of Xbox’s direct-to-cloud controllers, previous reports suggest that these are currently in the testing and development phase. Additionally, there are efforts underway to enhance the visual quality of streaming services, aiming to allow gamers to enjoy Xbox titles without needing a console that matches the performance of the Xbox Series X|S.
In a related development, Microsoft recently unveiled a pilot program for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, enabling them to stream select games they own on their Xbox consoles.
