Instagram Down Worldwide: Thousands Report Messaging, DM And App Loading Issues On Meta Platform

On Wednesday morning, Meta’s Instagram faced a notable service disruption, impacting thousands of users who encountered connectivity issues. The platform experienced a significant technical breakdown, leading to delays in its messaging service.

Details of the Disruption

According to data from Downdetector, over 4,700 complaints were registered, primarily concerning the direct messaging feature. This left many users unable to send or receive private chats, creating a ripple effect of frustration.

The disruption commenced around 8:45 AM IST on March 11, 2026, as indicated by real-time monitoring from Downdetector. Within a matter of minutes, the number of complaints surged from a few hundred to over 10,000 globally.

Users in India reported a technical glitch accompanied by a sudden decline in app performance. Technical data revealed that the outage was quite specific: 71% of users reported issues with the mobile app, 20% faced challenges with server connections, and 5% experienced frozen feeds and timelines.

As is customary during major platform failures, Instagram users flocked to X to confirm they were not alone in receiving the dreaded “Failed to send” notification. The phrase “I’m cooked,” a popular Gen Z expression denoting a state of despair, began trending as conversations were abruptly interrupted.

One user shared, “I thought I was being ghosted or blocked until I checked X.” Another chimed in, “Instagram is officially cooked. My DMs are a ghost town.”

Despite the widespread discontent, Meta Platforms has not yet released a formal statement addressing the situation. Interestingly, the company’s official status page remained green for several hours, indicating no known issues, even as the reports continued to flood in.

For the time being, users are advised against reinstalling their apps, as the underlying issue appears to be server-related.
